10 steps to glowing skin

We all want glowing skin don’t we? And by glowing we mean radiating health, happiness and youth, rather than a shiny glaze of sweat from puffing our way up a few too many flights of stairs…

How do we get glowing skin? Simple. Whether by treating the body from within, or applying tricks of the trade to the exterior, glowing skin is not impossible to achieve. And here are ten simple steps to follow…

Eat lots of essential fatty acids

Fatty acids help skin to retain water and to soothe stressed complexions. This water helps the skin to glow. Simple! Get your fatty acids from wild salmon, flax seeds, almonds and cod.

Eat lots of whole grains

Whole grains are super foods in many ways, and when it comes to glowing skin they are super duper! The fibre in whole grains will flush out toxins in your skin and help retain a clear complexion. Get your whole grains with a diet rich in brown rice, wild rice, barley and wholemeal bread.

Eat lots of foods rich in vitamin B6

Vitamin B6 is well known for its abilities to stabilise hormones, and so plays an important role in eliminating skin conditions such as acne. Go for foods such as cauliflower, sunflower seeds, walnuts and avocados.

Eat lots of fruit

The anti-oxidants and vitamins in fruit help to maintain skin health, leading to that all important glow.

Exfoliate

When you exfoliate the skin, you are removing dead skin cells and rejuvenating the new skin underneath. Additionally, exfoliating the skin helps the application of make up afterwards, further enhancing that glow. So what are you waiting for? Try our lemon and honey scrub or our honey and bicarb face scrub for a super natural exfolaition!

Use a milk and honey face mask

By now you should already know lots about the powers of honey, and yes- this is one ingredient that will also make your skin glow. Mix one egg white with one tablespoon of honey and apply to the face, leaving to soak for 20 minutes. Rinse and pat dry.

Use potatoes

Yes, we all know about cucumbers (they are fab for soothing puffy eyes and toning the skin) but did you know that potatoes are also great for treating the skin? Peel and slice a potato or soak cotton wool pads in the juice from a grated potato. Use this to soothe inflammation and reduce puffiness- apply to closed eyelids and relax for 15 minutes.

Use a good toner

And by good, we mean all natural. To make a revitalising mint facial toner, simply pour 1.5 litres of boiling water over a handful of fresh mint leaves for ten minutes, then strain. Allow the mixture to cool completely, then apply using cotton wool pads. Beautiful- and fabulous for healthy, glowing skin.

Avoid touching your face during the day

A simple trick, but one that works. Every time you touch your face you are transferring whatever you’ve been touching to your face. Germs and bacteria can hamper all your good work, so keep your hands to yourself!

Drink lots of water

Another simple tip, but a very important one. Drinking water is so important for many aspects of your health, but for glowing skin it is essential. There is no better way to flush the toxins from your body, so get that bottle filled and up your intake today.
