Intro to natural creams and balms course
For those who want to add to their offerings we also offer a Cream and Balm day which follows exactly the same format as the Little Soap School Introduction to Soap Making days– and again, we can tailor the day to what you would like to learn.
With more and more of us questioning the ingredients used in many of the cosmetic products we buy, it seems that even those which promise to be ‘natural’ can contain hidden ingredients that you would rather not use on your skin. Learning to make your own creams and balms is both easy and fun and most of all, puts you in control of what you use in your skincare routine.
The course begins at 10.30am with warm M’Hencha cake and tea/coffee and a brief discussion about the raw ingredients, vegetable oils and essential oils that can be used for the simplest most natural skincare. We then go on to combine the oils with beeswax or plant waxes to make balms or ointments. There is plenty of discussion about how to vary these products so that you are able to make lip balms, herbal balms, foot or hand balms or even totally pure nappy creams. Your knowledge is then taken further after lunch, with learning how to combine water with oil to make a moisturising cream. Unlike many other courses which teach only how to use their own products and ingredients we will give you the knowledge to formulate for your own requirements. There will be a thorough discussion on the use of preservatives and with your new found knowledge you will be in a position to make an informed decision about their use in your own products. Also you’ll tailor make a cream to suit your own purposes with or without the use of preservatives. If there is time left over we can make and explore other products such as gels.
Full Little Course Notes are given with recipes and lists of suppliers where the raw ingredients can be bought. All equipment, ingredients and course materials are provided for you to make your finished products!
We expect to finish the day at around 4pm with tea and chocolate brownies.
