Can you tell us about Moonie and the products you create?
We are a small, family-run business based in Dorset who specialise in creating everyday eco essentials. Our range consists of everything from Reusable Bin Liners and Cotton Bags to Bamboo Brushes and Compostable Cloths!
What inspired you to create Moonie?
The idea to start an eco-business came to us over 8 years ago. We were overwhelmed by all the plastic items in our everyday lives and found it very difficult to source eco-friendly products which were affordable. Our struggle inspired us to design and make our first product – The Muslin Cleansing Cloth, which was created as an alternative to single-use makeup wipes. The rest is history!
What would you say is Moonie’s mission statement?
Our aim is to make eco-friendly options more affordable, accessible, and attainable. This is something we’re so passionate about and is at the heart of everything we create.
Why do you think sustainable living is so important?
Going green and making sustainable choices helps us create a better future for ourselves, our planet, and future generations. Regardless of who you are or where you live, we all have a moral obligation to each other to leave the planet in a better place than we found it. The everyday choices we make have a huge impact on the environment, we only have one earth so let’s look after it!
What is the process like for creating a new product?
We love to get our community involved when it comes to product development; our customers are our co-creators. We start by recognising the need for a sustainable swap which is followed by intense research. We then create prototypes that are shared with customers to gain feedback. As we are a small business we do everything in-house – this means we are completely absorbed in every step to ensure perfect products!
If you could give one piece of advice to those at the start of their zero-waste journey, what would it be?
Start with small simple swaps such as replacing your plastic toothbrush with a wooden one. At the start of your journey, you can feel overwhelmed but it’s important to remember it’s the small steps that can make a huge difference.
What’s your favourite zero-waste swap?
Ditching single-use products bring us so much joy! Our favourite swap is our most-used product – Ultra-Soft Reusable Cotton Pads. Simply use these with your favourite toner/makeup remover and pop in the washing machine when done.
What’s your biggest achievement to date?
We’re really proud of the positive impact we are having and the change for good we are making. It makes our day to see people using and loving our products. When customers buy our products and tag us in their photos it gives us a real sense of purpose and makes us so happy that we are proactively helping people make those sustainable swaps.
What are your hopes for the future?
We are working hard to ensure even more people discover our eco-friendly products and that sustainable options become more accessible. We want to help educate others that sustainability should be a top priority through inspiring content and ethical products. We are full of hope that together we can rise to the challenge.
What are you currently working on?
We always listen to what our customers are requesting, there are a few new innovations we are creating to help new parents live more sustainably and reduce waste. Keep an eye out on our Instagram for updates and behind-the-scenes content.
