This Christmas, we urge you all to eat good food and be merry- wherever you are, and whoever you’re celebrating with. And with this in mind, we’ve compiled our ultimate wish list for a very vegan Christmas menu. These are the dishes fit for kings this festive season- we simply cannot wait to tuck in! Enjoy…
No party is complete without a little something to nibble on, and is it even Christmas if you don’t constantly have something delicious to feast on? We’re loving the vast array of vegan friendly foods that are now available in the supermarkets, but we do like to add a home made touch to the food we serve at Christmas. This year we’re going for these scrumptious sounding carrot and caraway crackers, with a fresh pot of this luxury hummus.
Starters to die for
Set the scene for the meal ahead, and do it right! A traditional Christmas dinner usually features soup of some kind, the perfect warming pre-cursor to dinner, but this year we’re making some changes. Cauliflower has featured heavily on our menus throughout 2018, and there’s a really good reason why. The versatility, the taste, the texture… and our favourite way to have it? Roasted, with a touch of sea salt and black pepper.
Cur your cauliflower into small florets, place into a roasting pan and drizzle with olive oil. Add pink Himalayan salt and freshly ground black pepper then roast in the oven until brown and crispy. be patient- it can take up for an hour for the cauliflower to take on the delicious crispy-yet-melt-in-the-mouth consistency you need. Enjoy!
Another started featuring on our tables this festive season has to be these awesome sounding turmeric tofu kebabs. How amazing do they look?
There will be turkey on our table this year, but that doesn’t mean we won’t be having a show-stopping centre piece worthy of several Instagram snaps! A quick google will let you know that
there are so many wonderful sounding vegan recipes for Christmas dinner out there… so here are our top three:
- Vegan Christmas Wreath. I mean, look at it. Cranberries, tofu, spinach, pine nuts… yum.
- Vegan Nut Roast. No vegan Christmas dinner is complete without one, and this one really does seem to break all the moulds. It sounds amazing!
- Portobello Mushroom Wellington– as seen on the Big BOSH! TV Christmas dinner video. Stunning.
The key to a calm and stress free Christmas dinner is all in the preparation, so take some time to peruse the recipes above to find the one you like the sound of. If you’re able, do a practise run ahead of the big day, and get your shopping list ready for it all now.
Everybody likes a little dessert, and at Christmas it’s simply rude not to indulge. Being vegan doesn’t mean you can’t have your cake and eat it either. For us, Christmas pudding is overrated, but if its your thing then do check out the vegan friendly options in store and online. For those who are decidedly chocolate lovers, here are our top three desserts this festive season:
- Sweet potato chocolate pudding. There is absolutely no way you would know these are low fat, and they taste amazing. Sprinkle with pistachio nuts and enjoy!
- Gingerbread chocolate mousse. Do we even need to say anymore?
- Vegan Peanut Butter Cup Pie. For those of us with a really sweet tooth… delicious.
Whatever you decide to eat, and whoever you choose to spend your day with we hope you have a wonderful Christmas, and a very merry festive season!
