Celebrating Women in the Workplace

Next week is International Women’s Day, a global day that celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women- so, naturally, we’re celebrating! This year’s campaign focus is #BreakTheBias, with an emphasis on really challenging every day biases towards women, in the workplace, in our local communities, at school and at home. The aim is to create a ‘world free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination. A world that is diverse, equitable and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated’… which leads us so nicely on to today’s post.

This week, we’re celebrating women in the workplace, and we’re shouting about some of our favourite female-founded brands too. Do let us know in the comments who inspires you, and why we need to be following them too!

Karma Kitchen

Oh goodness, where to start with Karma Kitchen?! Back in 2014, Gini and Eccie founded Karma Cans, an amazing lunch delivery company that specialised in healthy salads for offices around London. In doing this, they also built two kitchens, which quickly made them realise that they were on to something more. They saw the value in businesses having an efficient operation set up early on, so that there was space and money for the business itself to transom and grow. And so, Karma Kitchens was born. The team transform industrial spaces into beautiful commercial kitchens, co-working and storage. They build, equip and manage the spaces so that new food and drink businesses have everything they need to hit the ground running. How amazing is that?

And if the the whole concept of Karma Kitchen alone wasn’t enough, the brand also invest heavily in their community too- with The Karma Youth Training Programme, The Karma Food Academy, The Karma Relief Programme, The Karma Product Marketplace, The Karma Business Support Programme, and The Karma Services Marketplace. You can read more about these amazing services here. We just love Karma Kitchens, for helping to build and grow communities, develop businesses and inspire more women in the workplace. Amazing.

&SISTERS

Gorgeous mother and daughter duo, Lucy and Claire, created &SISTERS with a very clear goal in mind:to reimagine the future of female health, starting with safe, sustainable and beautifully designed period products.’– and we think they’ve done all of that and more with their fantastic range of eco period products. With three core principles to make products that are better for your body, better for the planet and better for our sisters (with 10% of profits going to towards supporting women’s health, education and economic empowerments across the globe).

So what’s so special about the &SISTERS period products, and why do we love the brand so much? If all of the above is not enough… &SISTERS have really considered it all when it comes to their products. The tampons, pads and liners are made from 100% biodegradable certified organic cotton, and their nudie cup is made from hypoallergenic medical silicone. The brand’s range also features period pants, and the innovative Remuvie Intimate Stain Remover, for period leaks and blood stains. Again, these products are super safe for your body and for the planet- and you can even sign up for a subscription to spread the cost and save 5% while you’re at it. Brilliant!

AllBright

We love AllBright! It’s a global career network for women, dedicated to providing a space for women to connect, upskill and grow in the workplace. The community is free to join, and provides women with access to a whole host of member benefits- live and on-demand events, community groups, opportunities to network with other women across the world and online courses too. AllBright truly is women supporting women, and we cannot get enough of it!

The AllBright club was opened in London in March 2018 with an aim to ‘provide a space to host a community of brilliant and smart-minded women, with a unique environment to connect, create and collaborate… We believe that community is key and that together, we can shape a narrative that puts sisterhood at its centre. More than a members’ club, we champion the kind of collaboration that inspires change and opens up progressive conversation.’ Need we say anymore?

Peanut

The Peanut app is really rather special. Available for android and iPhone, it provides a safe space for women to connect. Members enjoy access to a vast array of communities that are focused around the various topics of conversations we want to have at different points in our lives. It could be fertility, pregnancy, menopause- whatever you’re going through, you can find a community that understands- and this is what we really love about it.

We all live such busy lives right now, and sometimes it can be hard getting a date in the diary to sit down for a proper catch up with friends. Or we might be going through something that we feel we’re alone in, our friends might not be going through the same thing- but we’d still like advice and support. That’s where Peanut comes in- with a clear vision to ensure that women are connected at every stage in their lives, that no woman feels isolated and instead feel empowered.

Peanut was founded in 2017 by the brilliant Michelle after her first baby as born, and after a disastrous trek into online forums for advice and support. Her vision is to ‘connect women at every life stage—from puberty and pregnancy through to motherhood and menopause—so that three women in the same family can all find support on Peanut when they need it most.’ Amazing.
