Elevating Our Impact- We've Been B Corp Re-Certified!

Being a B Corp brand is a big deal. It means a lot to the whole team here at Little Soap, and we worked so hard to gain certification back in 2020 with a score of 87.7. But we promised you then that the journey was far from over. We had no plans to sit back with our certification and rest easy! What is a B Corp brand?

Being a B Corp brand means we’re part of an amazing global collection of like-minded businesses. These are all businesses and organisations that meet the highest of standards when it comes to social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability. We’re a group who are trying to build a more inclusive and sustainable economy together. We’re working hard to be a force for good, to put people and planet over profit- and we never tire of encouraging more to do the same.

What does our score mean?

Our impact score in 2020 was 87.7- a really impressive score if we say so ourselves! Each and every B Corp brand is assessed against the same criteria, and given an overall score which serves to inform everyone of the impact they have in all the areas of assessment. 

There are 250+ points available in total, and to make it as a B Corp brand you need to score at least 80. The impact score is customisable to each brand, making the system fair as it takes into account geography, sector and size.

Why have we worked to gain re-certification?

So why have we worked so hard for a new score? With 250+ available overall, anyone who knows us will know we’d never have been content to remain static- not when there is still so much we can do! We must be the change we seek in the world. We must keep improving, innovating and seeking to help others do the same.

We made a commitment to continuous improvement when we became a B Corp Brand. We know we can do better, and so we will. Our 2020 score was just the start. Being re-certified means we’re able to show you exactly how we’ve improved!

So what have we done?

Governance: the business of a business is to improve the world- and since 2008, we’ve been on a mission to get rid of unnecessary plastic bottles in your bathroom.

Workers: Oh, the energy we put into the relationships with our team, our suppliers and our local community! Things always work better when we work together.

Customers: We will always make sure that the soap you buy its the best. That means no detergents, SLS, sulphates, alcohol, parabens, sorbates, silicones, or synthetic preservatives. 

Soap Bars for Sensitive Skin

Community: We’re passionate about educating and informing our community about the issues that are important. 

Environment: Every single ingredient that goes into our bars is sustainably sourced and that’s a promise. We are passionate supporters of the use of sustainable palm oil, members of the Vegan Society and certified Leaping Bunny cruelty-free. 

We’re making pure, natural soap even more accessible to all. We’re eliminating bathroom waste, investing in people and our suppliers and we’re partnering with charities- supporting and donating to the Sumatran Orangutan Society, and donating to Dogs for Good, NHS, Waitrose Garden Party and local hospitals. 

What’s next for Little Soap as a B Corp brand?

No, we’re not done! With a new score of 90.7, we’re more determined than ever to keep going! 

We’ve got big plans to trial new materials, ingredients and categories. We want to continue to invest in our people and suppliers and raise more funds for the charities that matter. And we want to continue to educate and inspire- our new Eco Warrior Podcast means we can research more ways to encourage our customers to offset their carbon; we’ve expanded the reach of our Soap School Project, by levelling up our online and at-home kits.
