As we embrace Organic September once more here at Little Soap HQ, we thought we’d take a moment to highlight our Organics Range. Whether you’re looking to adopt a more organic lifestyle in general, or whether you’re a loyal fan of our Organics Range already- this post will hopefully tell you all you need to know about organic skin care right now, and why going organic is a great idea. Read on to find out more…

What is Organic September?

Organic September is a ‘month-long campaign to raise awareness of the many benefits of organic food and farming’ (The Soil Association). But the campaign isn’t just limited to the food we eat and the methods in which we receive that food. The campaign also intends to raise awareness of all aspects of living an organic lifestyle, including organic beauty products and organic skin care.

The Soil Association recognises the fact that ‘wool, cotton, health and wellness products, and cleaning products can all be certified as organic too’. This means that there are many, many changes we can all make in our everyday lives if we want to including when it comes to organic beauty.

Just so you know, here at Little Soap our organic soap is not officially certified organic- but that doesn’t mean our soap isn’t organic. We don’t carry the Soil Association’s accreditation because it would limit us in terms of the producers we choose to use– in terms of percentages, we ascribe to Soil Association and COSMOS guidelines.

How does Little Soap support the campaign?

While Organic September obviously takes place throughout the month, the hope is that lots will see the benefit of continuing to live an organic lifestyle beyond September. Here at Little Soap we’re as passionate about the environment as we are about your skin- and we hope that you will continue to choose organic soap and other organic beauty products all year round!

Our Organic Range was created to help more people have easy access to affordable, ethical organic soap- because organic beauty products should be accessible to all! With this in mind, it’s also important to us that our organic soap bars are made in England as this helps us minimise the miles they travel before reaching you.

Our little organic soap bars are entirely free of anything that could damage the environment. No dyes, no synthetic fragrances, no silicones, no nasties. Full. Stop. And for the same reason, we ensure all our packaging is not only made from recycled material, it’s also recyclable and biodegradable. Over the past few years we’ve put extensive work into being certified cruelty free, recognised by the Vegan Society, and currently, RSPO certified and so proud to be registered as a B Corporation.

What’s the difference between ‘Organic’ and ‘Natural’?

This is a question we are asked frequently, and one we’re always more than happy to answer! Sadly, the term ‘natural’ has become quite misused and misleading in the beauty industry. To be considered a ‘natural beauty product’ cosmetics and toiletries may contain as little as one percent naturally-grown ingredients and may or may not contain organically-grown ingredients. Clearly, not all ‘natural’ products are quite what they claim to be!

The Soil Association has some clear guidelines that applies to organic skin care, organic soap and organic beauty products in general. We’re proud that our Organic Range and Organic Little Beast Pet Range products adhere to the Soil Association’s definition:

‘An organic beauty product has ingredients that have been grown using organic farming methods. Organic farming does not allow the use of synthetic fertilisers, genetically modified (GM) ingredients and herbicides’

This kind of clarity sits at the heart of everything we do. It allows you to make informed decisions about how natural, how organic and how good for you and our planet our products are.
