Our Favourite DIY Christmas Gifts

Last week we shared our top tips for making Christmas sustainable and plastic free, and one of our tips centred around gifting. Each year, over 21million of us receive unwanted Christmas gifts. That’s an awful lot of lovely gift sets! The problem is that many of these unwanted gifts end up in landfill, and that needs to end. So we shared our thoughts on making sure your wish lists are short and to the point- and making sure we really think about the gifts we give, too. With this in mind, we’re sharing our favourite DIY Christmas gifts you can make at home- after all, what says you care more than a gift you spent time creating?

Edible Gifts

When it comes to top DIY Christmas gifts, you can’t get any better than food! We LOVE spending time in the kitchen, creating delicious treats we know our loved ones will enjoy. Some of the best times at Christmas centre around food, so it just makes sense! Here are just three mouth watering edible DIY Christmas gift ideas you can try:

  1. Fudge. Depending on the recipe, fridge is one of those sweet treats that can be whipped up in no time at all. Pop them in a gorgeous paper bag, tie with ribbon and you’e got yourself a gift!
  2. Cake. Who doesn’t love cake?! Baked with love and loved by all.
  3. Caramelised nuts. When it comes to edible DIY Christmas gifts, this is one traditional treat we can get on boar with year after year. There are loads of great recipes out there, but we probably like this one best.

Beauty gifts

We’re huge fans of making our own when it comes to beauty treatments, so it wouldn’t be a top DIY Christmas gifts roundup without this recommendation! From face masks, to body butters- there are so many different ways you can make a special person feel even more special this Christmas. We love making this gorgeous fluffy body butter as gifts:

Ingredients: half a cup of cocoa butter, one and a half cups of sweet almond oil, eight drops of lavender oil.

Method: This one is so easy! Simply melt the cocoa butter in a bowl over boiling water until melted, then stir in the almond oil and lavendar oil. When the mixture starts to slightly cool, use a hand whisk to whip it up until it’s fluffy and white. That’s it! Pop it in a mason jar and you’ve got a dreamy DIY Christmas gift that will definitely be appreciated!

Experience gifts

A different kind of DIY Christmas gift, maybe. But on our mission to reduce unwanted gifts, buying someone an experience you know they’ll love has made the list this year. It might be as simple as a day out at their favourite nature reserve, or an afternoon by the sea. Whatever the experience, it sure beats a novelty gift that gets forgotten as soon as Christmas Day is done.
