Let’s talk toothpaste…

With toothpaste tubes taking up to 500 years to decompose, it’s time to consider a plastic-free alternative to this very important daily routine! If you haven’t already, check out our Ultimate Guide to plastic-free oral care. But if you have already checked that blog out, we wanted to share with you a quick and easy recipe for how you can make your own toothpaste at home with no plastic in sight (phew!).

Here’s what you’ll need:

1 tbsp coconut oil
2 tbsp baking soda
½ tsp of charcoal powder
5 drops of peppermint oil

Melt the coconut oil. Mix the oil, baking soda and charcoal together. Add your peppermint oil in for a final mix and store in an airtight jar.

Now for mouthwash…

When you venture down the aisles of any major retailer you can’t help but notice that almost all of the mouthwash products available are made with plastic from head-to-toe. But if you aren’t a fan of the mouthwash tablets that are available or aren’t able to access more sustainable alternatives, here’s a recipe for you to make your own at home:

All you need is filtered water, 1tsp of sea salt or Himalayan pink salt and six sage leaves!

Add your sage leaves to a bottle (a reusable metal water bottle could work well). In a separate pan dissolve your teaspoon of salt in 150ml of boiling water. After the salt has dissolved, add the mix to your bottle. Use daily after brushing.
