Your Ultimate Guide to The Perfect Hair Wash

Your Guide to the Perfect Hair Wash_LittleSoapCompany.co.ukYour Guide to the Perfect Hair Wash_LittleSoapCompany.co.ukThere’s nothing quite like the feel of freshly washed hair and while it can be viewed as something of a cliche, we believe that there is absolutely nothing wrong with choosing to stay home to get the job done. Washing your hair is no longer simply an excuse to get out of an awkward night out. It’s an indulgent yet necessary act of self love and we just LOVE spending quality time perfecting the process. Want to know how? Here’s your ultimate guide to the perfect hair wash- once you’ve done it this way, you’ll never consider anything else!

Preparation is key

Your first step towards shiny, happy hair is to view the preparation as a vital component to the actual hair washing process. Hair oils are a fantastic way to prepare your hair and to treat the scalp to an added moisture boost too. The added benefit of a pre-wash oil being massaged into the scalp and hair is that it helps to break down oily residues and some products you may be using too. This is a great way to ensure that the actual hair wash is more effective overall.

We recommend: make your own hair and scalp oil treatment. We love coconut oil as a simple yet very hydrating pre-wash treatment- just ensure you only use a small amount as a little goes a long way!

Do the double cleanse

Without a doubt the only way to truly clean your hair, the double cleanse is a must if you want to get rid of prodct build up, pollutants and other nasties we pick up in our hair during an average day. The first cleanse is essential, but the second one will really clean your hair. Think of it like your face when you remove your makeup at the end of the day. One cleanse is just not enough.

The first hair wash will remove residues such as dead skin cells, atmospheric pollutants and natural oils. The second wash will eliminate all of these factors completely, literally leaving your hair squeaky clean- and your scalp in tip-top condition too.

We recommend: Use our indulgent, uni-sex Organic Grapefruit and Orange Shampoo for the ultimate refreshing double cleanse!

Check your water temperature

The golden rule: water that is too hot could dry out your hair and leave it desperately dehydrated. Warm water, rather than hot, will help to open up the cuticles ready for the shampoo to work its magic.

Add a conditionerYour Guide to the Perfect Hair Wash_LittleSoapCompany.co.uk

Depending on your hair type, you may need to use a conditioner every time you wash your hair. Alternatively, you may only need to do this once a week. The most important thing to remember is that you need only apply it to the lengths and ends of your hair. Rinse well, and follow up with a further, cold rinse to close up the cuticle and promote a smoother, more shiny appearance.

We recommend: Our Organic Grapefruit and Orange Conditioner for a sweet and refreshing shine every time.

Things to avoid

Your hair is your crowning glory, and its so important to take care over what products you use on it- just as you would take care of your skin care products, and the foods that you eat. As ever, we recommend that you read your labels carefully and keep an eye out for parabens, sulphates and fragrances that can strip your hair of essential oils, and that carry a whole host of other adverse affects. Our shampoo has been carefully crafted to avoid these harmful ingredients, so you know that when you shop with us you are not compromising your health at all.

Our shampoo is also SLS free, which means that it does not contain Sodium Lauryl Sulfate- a chemical that works to turn liquids into foam. SLS can wreak havoc with existing skin conditions and allergy-prone skin, and can also strip away essential oils, meaning that your hair wash can actually be a detrimental process!

Put simply, SLS is a synthetic component that we simply do not need in our products- so choose wisely!
