5 toxic ingredients you take into the shower- and why you need to stop!

So you eat healthy foods and you exercise regularly. You care about what you put into your body, right? So why not care about what you put on your body too? We’ve written before about the importance of choosing the right products and ingredients for your skin and beauty routine, and we’re more than passionate about using only the best natural ingredients at all times. So today we’re talking about the toxic ingredients you take into your shower with you each day- and why you need to stop! We’ve also added a few alternatives to use instead, because we’re nice like that.

5 toxic ingredients you take into the shower~ LittleSoapCompany.co.uk

Stop using DEA (Diethanolamine), MEA (Monoethanolamine), TEA (Triethanolamine)

These are chemicals that disturb your body’s hormones and should be avoided at all costs. You’ll find these toxins in products that foam, and if you check your shower gel and shampoo right now, you might find some of these ingredients listed:

  • Cocamide DEA
  • Cocamide MEA
  • DEA-Cetyl Phosphate
  • DEA Oleth-3 Phosphate
  •  Lauramide DEA
  • Linoleamide MEA
  • Myristamide DEA
  • Oleamide DEA
  • Stearamide MEA
  • TEA-Lauryl Sulfate
  • Triethanolamine

Instead of facial cleansers with these chemicals, go for our organic goat’s milk and jojba facial cleansing bar .

Stop using  Phthalates and Parabens

These little nasties are chemicals that manufacturers use to preserve products and they’re bad news all round. Read your labels carefully and always go for organic cosmetics over any other. So rather than your paraben loaded shower gel, instead go for our handmade rose geranium soap instead, or make your own scrumptious coconut lime body scrub instead. To make it you need:

  • Half a cup organic coconut oil
  • 1 cup organic sugar or salt
  • 20 drops lime essential oil

Simply melt the coconut oil over a low heat, mix in the lime essential oil and sugar/ salt. Mix well and allow to cool in an airtight container. Store at room temperature and use as and when needed.

Stop using artificially fragranced products

There is no need to artificially fragrance your beauty essentials! We use all natural ingredients in our soaps, and we also stock an un-perfumed range too. Artificial fragrances usually mean a lot of chemicals have been added and you can find them in shower gels, shampoos, body washes and facial cleansers too. Instead of fragranced products, go for un-perfumed and, as always, read your labels carefully.

Stop using Quaternium-15

This is another nasty commonly found in skin and hair products, and can cause dermatitis and other allergic reactions. Natural ingredients are just as effective on your skin and hair! We love using coconut oil to moisturise dry hair, and you can make your own hair mask quite easily at home too. To make a luxurious egg based hair mask, you need:

  • 1 egg (2 for longer hair)
  • 1 cup of milk (half for shorter hair)
  • squeeze of organic lemon
  • 2 table spoon olive oil

To make it, you need to first separate your egg and beat the yolks in a bowl. Then add the milk and olive oil and stir well. Add the lemon and beat with a whisk. Apply to the hair and scalp, from roots to ends and leave for 15 minutes. Rinse in lukewarm water, then wash with a gentle, organic shampoo.

Stop using Triclosan

This can be found in soaps and disinfectant gels, and it’s highly toxic! For an effective hand wash, SOON TO LAUNCH is our NEW ORGANIC HAND SOAP which we are super super excited to fiiiiiiiinnnallllly reveal! Our new artisan range, in our two best selling flavours….

Untitled copyIn the meantime ALL our bar soaps are totally natural and only contain pure, top grade vegetable oils and no nasties whatsoever – the smelly ones are only fragranced with pure essential oils – no synthetic fragrance… or if you are really sensitive we recommend you stick to the unfragranced bars, be it the English Oatmeal or any from the Unperfumed section of our Artisan Handmade Range
