Welcome to May! While this year seems to be flying past, I hope you're taking the time to appreciate just how beautiful the world is out there right now? Spring brings with it so many gorgeous new plants, flowers and foods, and the closer we get to summer, the more colourful it all is. We're loving this season so much! This month we thought we'd let you know about the produce at its finest this month, and we decided this time we'll pop them all into a juice. Here are three little super foods to look out for in May. Hope you enjoy!
Rhubarb
Ah, good old rhubarb! Hands up who's had it in a crumble as a child? You can't beat it- probably one of the most comforting puddings there is. But, of course, we're not going to make a crumble. Oh no. We're going to juice it. Why? Because rhubarb is packed full of so many amazing nutrients, and when we juice it we keep all of the benefits intact, ready to benefit our bodies in a powerful way. And now it's May, there's loads of this stuff around. Sound good? Read on.
Rhubarb can be juiced raw, unlike when you make a pudding and you need to cook it first. Because of this, and because rhubarb can naturally taste very tart, you will need to mix it with a little something else. An orange would work really well for an extra vitamin C boost.
Rhubarb juice contains high levels of important minerals such as potassium, phosphorus, sodium, copper and zinc. It also contains a very good amount of Vitamin B-complex, so what are you waiting for? Studies have found it's Vitamin K levels are essential for improving bring function, and antioxidants are present to fight the signs of ageing too. Not only that but rhubarb can help with bone health, cholesterol digestive issues, liver health and the maintenance of a healthy immune system. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed!
Asparagus
Now, hear us out! There is no reason at all why asparagus can't go into a juice! It's bang on season right now and tasting delicious, so by all means lightly steam a few stalks and drizzle them with olive oil, but please please also try this amazing juice recipe!
