What is #CharcoalFriday?
#CharcoalFriday is our antidote to Black Friday. It’s a sustainable alternative to the massive overspending and overconsumption that takes place during this time. It’s our chance to make a real difference, one bar of soap at a time. Because with every order that you place with us until 11.59pm 1st December 2024, we will gift you an Eco Warrior Clear Skin bar absolutely FREE.
We’re not saying we’re about to change the world with this campaign. But we are saying that YOU could.
Every single penny that you spend during this time of year, from Black Friday right the way up to Christmas, matters. It matters to small business owners. And it matters to our planet too. Because when you choose to really care about the products you buy and the brands you invest in, you can make a difference. You can say no to:
Overconsumption: did you know that here in the UK, we’re predicted to spend around 9 billion British pounds during Black Friday weekend? That’s up on last year, despite many of us feeling the pinch of the cost of living crisis.
Waste: Did you also know that a staggering 80% of what we buy during Black Friday ends up being thrown away because we simply don’t need it?!
Excessive plastic packaging: Black Friday generates an estimated 104,946 tonnes of plastic packaging, which ultimately ends up either in landfill or being exported overseas during Christmas.
Excessive carbon emissions: Producing all these ‘bargains’ and sending them out to customers has an effect too, even if your order arrives in a cardboard box. Some reports suggest that around 13,257 trees would need to be cut down this year to package our purchases - releasing 3781 tonnes of CO2 (the equivalent of almost 6000 flights from London to New York), using 63 million kWh of energy and 770 million litres of water.
These reasons alone should be enough to make you turn your back on Black Friday, for good.

- Make a conscious effort to look at the materials your gifts are made from. Ask questions about the supply chain, how the products are made and where they’re made. Reach out to brands, do your research and make it your mission to really understand the impact of what you’re buying.
- Keep sustainability at the front of your mind whenever you can. Read the labels, and look for accreditation logos that tell you what you need to know. For example, we carry the Carbon Neutral Britain logo, which means that we’re a carbon-neutral business.
