Make the switch to all natural products

Regular readers will know that we are huge advocates for all natural products- for both the inside and the outside of our bodies. But we also know that changing lifestyle habits you’ve had for a long time is no mean feat either. Here are some tips to help you make the switch to all natural products.

Why make the switch?

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again. Everything that you put on your skin is absorbed into your body. So while you’ve nailed the clean eating menu and you’re hitting the gym religiously, you may still be causing harm to your body by lavishing it with chemicals each time you shower or moisturise. We believe that your skincare routine should be natural, organic and loving. And that is why you should make the switch. It really is worth swapping all of your existing beauty ‘must haves’ for kinder, chemcial free versions instead. And here’s how to do it.

Start slowly

There’s no need to throw away the entire bathroom cabinet- unless you can afford to replace everything all at once- all in one go. Chances are you have spent  mini fortune on all of that stuff, and buying replacements is not going to happen overnight. Go one by one.  Switch your cleanser first, and then go for your moisturiser. Then go for the make up bag and replace items one by one from there too.  This softly softly approach will not only be kinder on your bank balance, but it will help to eliminate stress too- and we all know that isn’t good for your body and mind either!

Know which products to ditch first

As a general rule, you might want to go for the products that are on your skin the longest. So the ones you wash away can wait a while. It’s the creams and lotions that are absorbed through your skin that you need to look at eliminating straight away. Your facial moisturiser is probably the biggest culprit for toxin build up and it’s regular twice daily use means that you’re pumping your body full of nasties each time you open it up. Get rid of that one first- try this all natural moisturiser instead:

All natural facial moisturiser

You need:

  • 3/4 cup coconut oil (organic)
  • 10 drops frankincense essential oil
  • 10 drops tea tree essential oil

Simply whip up your coconut oil until it’s light and fluffy, then add your essential oils. The Frankincense has antibacterial and anti inflammatory properties, and the tea tree oil helps to support clean and healthy skin too. Together with the coconut oil they are a force to be reckoned with- and so much kinder to your skin than your chemical laden alternatives.

Read your labels religiously

Start to recognise the ingredients that you DON’T want in your products at all. See this post for ingredients to avoid and this post for natural preservatives to look for in your products. It might also be  good idea to visit this post on what to look for when you buy organic skincare too. Educate yourself on what should and shouldn’t be in your products.

Stick with the brands you trust

We might take the opportunity here to blow our own trumpet! All of our products are natural and kind to your skin, and we take pride in the fact that we’re passionate about reducing the amount of chemicals that are rubbed into your skin. We only use organic vegetable and English essential oils in our products and we offer soap making courses so that you can make your own products too.

When you find a brand that you trust, and you know that they share your beliefs in what makes a good all natural product, you will find it easier to make the switch completely. Don’t be put off by the price- in the long run, you are making huge savings that aren’t always in monetary terms.

Don’t stress about it

Making the switch won’t happen overnight, so don’t stress about it. You will get there, and in the meantime remain positive and chilled about it all. Remember that stress is even worse for your skin!
