Five Surprising Ways to use Bar Soap

Three Little Uses for Your Left-Over Soap Scraps

Back in 2018, we shared a little blog on three little uses for your leftover soap scraps. Now we’ve got a slightly bigger audience and with this blog still proving very helpful, we wanted to share a slightly updated version with you once again – so enjoy!

We’re determined to contribute towards less waste and we’re always looking at more creative ways to do this. One thing we do is use our soap scraps and you can too! Here are three little uses for your soap scraps, so you never have to waste a single sliver again.

Soaps

Re-purpose your scraps and make a new bar

Those small slivers you’re left with as your bar comes to the end can be quite annoying! But if you’re anything like us and cannot bear to throw them away, then don’t! Store them in an airtight container (make sure they’re dry first) and when you have a few you can re-purpose them into a brand new bar.

Use a cheese grater to grate the scraps into thin flakes, taking care not to breathe in any dust that could occur. Pop the grated soap into a bowl and then add some water. Just enough to soften the soap. Pop into the microwave for 30 seconds and mix. Then back in for another 30 seconds. Repeat this last step as many times as it takes until the mixture turns soft and mushy.

Now you’re ready to create your soap! Add some essential oil if you like (lavender works really well) and mix well. Then spoon your mixture into bun/ muffin trays and allow to set. Add a little coconut spray oil to the tray first so the soap doesn’t stick. Alternatively, you can form the mixture into balls and allow it to set. The shape is up to you! The soap will take at least a week to dry out, so be patient. It will be worth the wait.

Make your own laundry soap

This is such a great way to use up soap scraps! Grated or shredded soap can be mixed with bicarbonate of soda and sodium carbonate to help keep your clothes fresh and clean! There’s a great guide on how to do this over on the Soap Queen blog. Have a read and see what you think.

Make your own soapy shower scrub

Because we know how important it is to exfoliate, this is the best- and the easiest- way to use up soap scraps in our opinion! Simply pop your soap scraps into an exfoliating wash mitt and hang up in the shower. Next time your skin is crying out for some TLC, you have a beautiful exfoliating shower scrub ready and waiting!

If you prefer a softer wash, you can also pop your soap scraps inside a normal wash mitt or a large facecloth, and tie it up securely instead. This is such a great way to use up your scraps, and requires very little effort- so no more excuses! And no more waste. Perfect.
