Eco-friendly shaving – top tips and tricks

Hi there! If youā€™re new around here, weā€™re Little Soap Company and back in 2019, we developed Eco Warrior with the aim of eliminating unnecessary plastics in the bathroom.

One of the first bars we formulated and still one of our best-sellers to this day is our Shaving Bar. This bar was created from a brand new formulation, that provided a luxurious lather without the need for SLS. And completely plastic-free, of course! But just because you have an eco-friendly bar that can replace any foam, gel or cream you might find on the shelf – what about the rest of your routine? Here are our top picks and tips for making your shave routine more eco-friendly:

Use a safety razor

Itā€™s time to say goodbye to the over five million disposable razors that end up in landfill each year (Statista) and swap them for a safety razor. There are lots of different options on offer, so itā€™s up to you to decide which works best for your needs. Hereā€™s a few of our faves:

Jungle Culture

Jungle Culture safety razors are produced using eco-friendly, natural bamboo and durable chrome. They are all plastic-free and zero waste!

FFS Beauty

FFS Beauty offers razors on a subscription-service basis, removing single-use plastics from the shaving process. They also offer a blade recycling scheme, where customers can send back their old blades and FFS will separate each of the elements ready to be recycled.

Use a vegan and eco shaving brush

As with lots of products, but especially cosmetic brushes, be careful when it comes to greenwashing! Just because the packaging is covered in green leaves doesnā€™t mean that the products themselves are very ethically or sustainably produced. Hereā€™s a couple of our favourite shaving brushes:

Mutiny

Made with synthetic vegan bristles and wooden oak handle all sourced and made in the Scottish highlands, this brush is the perfect companion to your eco-shaving routine.

Wild Sage & Co

Again made with synthetic bristles, this vegan shaving brush is made with an ash handle and is completely cruelty-free!

Use shaving bars or make your own!

As mentioned previously our Eco Warrior Shaving Bar is ā€˜the best thing since sliced breadā€™ when it comes to shaving, we wanted to share with you a couple of other eco-hacks you can do that allows you to use up some of your old products before you invest in our shaving bar!

Use up old hair conditioner

Got some old hair conditioner bottles with a bit left in the bottom that simply isnā€™t enough to apply to your hair? No problem! Use the leftover liquid as an alternative shaving cream!

Make your own shaving cream

Donā€™t Waste the Crumbs shared this awesome recipe for making your own shaving cream, which you can make using our Little Soap Company Olive Oil bar:

  • 70g shea butter
  • 70g coconut oil
  • 3 tbsp of Olive Oil soap (melted down)
  • 2 tbsp of grapeseed oil.

Melt the butter, coconut oil & soap and stir in the grapeseed oil. Let cool and allow to harden (this can take up to 60 minutes). Then using a stand mixer, mix the ingredients together until it resembles a cream. Once whipped, add the cream to a glass jar and seal tightly with a lid – and youā€™re done!
