Start the Day the Right Way: Three Super Little Breakfasts

Do you skip breakfast in the mornings? Or do you always make time for this meal? And if you do make time for it, do you sit down and really savour it, or does it tend to be one of those rushed affairs that you simply get through so you can leave the house on time? Sorry for all the questions, but this is important! As I’m sure your mum has already told you (repeatedly, probably!) breakfast really is the most important meal of the day, so if you answered yes to the first question then please, read on! Here’s how you can start the day the right way- with three super little breakfast. Enjoy!

Why eat breakfast anyway?

Start the Day the Right Way: Three Super Little BreakfastsThere have been reports lately that state breakfast is not the be all and end all of meals after all, so we thought it only fair to state our stance on this. Studies have indeed found that those who skip breakfast tend to make poorer food choices throughout the rest of the day, for a variety of reasons. Namely because they have failed to set their metabolism early in the day. This leads not only to a sluggish metabolism, but also an increase in appetite. This increase in appetite forces us to crave the foods we wouldn’t normally go for, and our blood sugars drops too, which is another reason why we start to reach for sugary, stodgy snacks rather than wholesome meals. Further studies have found that those who do not skip breakfast tend to eat more healthily all day, and find it easier to lose weight too. Their metabolism tends to work a lot more efficiently too so it really is a no brainer. Breakfast is important!

Here are the top three breakfasts we’re enjoying right now:

Overnight Oats

It couldn’t be easier to be prepared in the morning, with a nutritious and delicious meal. All you need is five minutes the night before and believe me you will be so glad you took the time! Overnight oats are so easy to make and there are so many ways that you can enjoy them. Basically you are soaking oats overnight so that in the morning they are ready to eat without any fuss. It’s what you soak them in and what you add to the mix that makes all the difference! Here are three of our favourite combinations:

  • Half a cup of rolled oats
  • Half a cup of almond milk
  • Quarter of a cup of full fat Greek yogurt
  • One teaspoon chia seeds
  • Vanilla
  • A pinch of sea salt

Mix all together and store in an airtight container over night. Top with blueberries. Yum!

  • Half a cup of rolled oats
  • One teaspoon of cocoa powder
  • Half a banana
  • 100ml coconut/ almond milk
  • One dessert spoon honey/ maple syrup
  • one dessert spoon cashew nut butter

This make a seriously creamy breakfast that you will not be able to resist!Start the Day the Right Way: Three Super Little Breakfasts

This one is like sunshine in a bowl!

Eggs

High in protein, quick and easy to prepare- what’s not to love about eggs? They’re delicious scrambled (Three egg whites to one yolk) on top of a slice of wholemeal toast, or poached, or baked inside an avocado cup… so many ways to eat them!

Smoothies

Not got time to sit down and eat? It happens to us all. But if you have time to prepare a quick smoothie, you don’t need to miss out completely. A good tip is to prepare your fruit and veg the night before so you can just pop them into the blender in the morning, or if you have time, prepare a batch of ingredients so that you have a week’s worth of smoothies ready to go. We love breakfast smoothies that are packed with leafy greens, healthy fats and zingy fruit, but this one has to be our favourite of all:

Green detox smoothie

  • Two cups of spinach
  • Three cups of chopped honeydew
  • Two kiwi, chopped
  • One banana
  • Juice of one lime

Place all ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth. Enjoy!

So what are you having for breakfast tomorrow?
