An age-old beauty remedy

Using lemon as part of a natural beauty regime is nothing new. We’ve known for centuries that these little yellow gems have some pretty potent properties and this is one of the reasons why we knew we just had to create a soap bar with some zing! Lemons are widely known for their ability to transform both the hair and the skin, with the citric acid acting as an astringent that works to remove excess oils, dirt, dead skin cells and blemishes. Lemons are also a natural source of vitamin C, and help to even out skin tone, reducing the appearance of age spots. When used on the hair, lemon can help to remove product build up and moisturise the scalp, plus they’re known to help reduce dandruff too.

Here are just three ways that you can incorporate lemons into your beauty routine today.

Exfoliate

We’re huge fans of exfoliation here at Little Soap HQ! And now that we know how powerful lemons can be when it comes to cleansing and evening out skin tone, whilst at the same time removing dirt and targeting blemishes… well it makes sense to use them in an exfoliator you can make at home. For this beautiful and powerfully cleansing scrub, you need:

  • The juice from half a lemon
  • One tablespoon olive oil
  • One tablespoon honey
  • Half a cup of raw sugar

To make the scrub, mix the lemon juice and olive oil together in an airtight container, using a fork to whisk. Then add the honey and mix again. Finally, mix in the sugar. Apply to the face in a gentle circular motion, then rinse and pat dry.

Cleanse

Lemons are amazing when it comes to DIY natural cleansers, so it’s little wonder we’ve include it in our top three! You don’t need much to make it work. Simply mix two tablespoons of natural yogurt with one tablespoon of lemon juice and apply to the face after cleansing. You can leave the mixture on for 20-30 minutes, then rinse well and pat dry. Believe us, you will love how your face feels after this!
