Ah, summer! Long hot days and longer balmy evenings. There’s no better time to sit back and relax with a nice cold drink and a good book, don’t you think? And now is the time for dining alfresco too, so naturally we’re thinking about food and drink that can be prepared simply, and enjoyed outside. And when we do that, we think of cocktails. But, as ever, we have a slightly more healthy alternative for you this week. Here are three all natural mocktails to enjoy right now- all the pleasure of a good summer drink, but none of the calories and other nasties that alcohol might bring. Have fun!
Lime and Cucumber Breeze
We LOVE cucumber here at Little Soap HQ. Remember this post on the wonderful ways you can use it to boost your body and mind? Search cucumber on the blog and you’ll find it’s featured in many green skin recipes too. And now a mocktail! Because it’s packed full of vitamins K and B and C, copper, potassium, and manganese it really does pack a refreshing punch this summer. Studies have found that cucumber helps to relieve stress, improve the condition and appearance of the skin and to prevent histamine release- which means that its a mighty antidote for hay fever sufferers. Cool, huh?
This mocktail is delightfully refreshing and surprisingly moreish. All you need is:
- 4 cups chopped peeled cucumber
- 2 cups water
- 2 to 4 limes (depending on taste), juiced
- 2 to 4 tablespoons agave syrup
Simply blend all of the ingredients together, strain to remove pulp etc, and then serve over ice. Enjoy!
Spicy Summer Mix
Why not make your mocktail work for you this summer? So many natural ingredients can play an important role in your overall health and this spicy blend is sure to be a firm favourite this summer. The ginger and turmeric are fantastic for fighting inflammation and the apple cider vinegar helps to eliminate toxins in the body. Not only that, but the cayenne pepper will give your mocktail a kick and help your intestines to absorb nutrients too. A real powerhouse and delicious too!
All you need to make it is:
- 4 cups sparkling mineral water
- 3 tablespoons organic raw apple cider vinegar
- 2 tablespoons organic lemon or lime juice
- 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup
- 1/4 teaspoon powdered ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon powdered turmeric
- dash of cayenne
Set the sparkling water aside, then add all ingredients except for the sparkling water into an airtight jar and shake until well combined. Then simply add the sparkling water to taste. This one has a kick but your body will thank you for it!
Chocolate and Raspberry Moctini
All you need is:
- 1 tablespoon cacao
- 1 quarter of a cup of coconut milk
- 2 tablespoons coconut sugar
- 1 quarter of a cup of raspberries (frozen or fresh)
- 1.5 cups fresh water
To make, simply blend all ingredients together in a blender, and serve. Simple. Delicious.
